I hope to publish a similar page in 2018, meanwhile a Happy New Year to all my Readers!

20th August:- The Avocets have now flown from the Far Flood! I intend to now stop these reports till next Year!

17th August:- 10am; Three Adult Avocets and One Immature on The Far Flood. The Young bird has some off white patches but otherwise looks like an adult, it is spending many hours sleeping!!

16th August:- One Avocet and One Young on the Far Flood! The Young Avocet has very near Adult plumage now!

12th August:- Two Avocets and One Young on The Far Flood! The Viewpooint is Dangerously slippy due to the consistantly Wet Weather, I do not intend to use it unless there is Seven Days of fine weather (Very unlikely)!

8th August:- No Avocets found, it looks like the Adult and One Young have flown (the water levels in the Allen Pool are low). However there was a confirmed sighting of the young Avocet on the 6th August!

6th August:- A day away with Lancaster Fellwalkers,
Eric Morecambe Pools - 3 Avocet (1 on Flood, 2 on Allen Pool) (P Crooks) [One of the Allen Pool Birds will be the single Chick]!!!

5th August:- One Avocet on The Allen Pool plus One Chick, both birds fast asleep when I was there!

2nd/3rd August:- One Avocet on The Allen Pool plus One Chick, the Chick is almost adult sized now!

31st July:- One Avocet on The Allen Pool plus One Chick, the Chick is now flying!!!

29th July:- One Avocet on The Allen Pool plus One Chick,

27th July:- Two Avocets on The Allen Pool plus One Chick. The Second Avocet is showing no interest in The Chick!

24th July:- One Avocet on The Allen Pool plus One Chick, which is growing fast!

19th July:- Four Avocets on The Flood plus One Avocet and One Chick on The Allen Pool.

16th/17th July:- Allen Pool; Two Avocets and One Chick!

13th July:- Allen Pool; Two Avocets and One Chick! The single Chick seems to be growing fast, hopefully one Chick will survive this year???

11th July:- Allen Pool; Two Avocets and One Chick!

9th July:- A day away with Lancaster Fellwalkers, however 3 Avocet (2 adults & 1 small youngster) on Allen Pool). P Crooks.

8th July:- Allen Pool; Two Avocets and One Chick!

7th July:- Allen Pool; Avocet 5 plus 1 young. John Wilson.

6th July:- Allen Pool; Six Avocets and One Chick.

5th July:- No Avocets seen during two visits, this looks like the end for this year!

3rd July:- Two mink were casually moving around next to the layby at Conder Pool today. Barrie Cooper!

3rd July:- Ten Avocets on The Allen Pool and One Chick!

1st July:- Conder Pool; A Red Fox strolled across the dry area of Conder Pool this morning. I knew there was a predator about from the commotion of the waders and wildfowl and Little Egrets as they mobbed the fox. Phil.

1st July:- Avocet 8 on the flood 13 plus 1 chick on Allen. John Wilson.

30th June:- Allen Pool; Two Avocets and One Chick! Another Two Avocets on The EM pool.

29th June:- Allen Pool; Avocet 2 adults 3 young John Wilson

29th June:- Conder Pool 10.30am, Two Avocets and One Large Chick! One of the Avocets was on the Conder Estuary!

28th June:- 8am Allen Pool; Two Avocets and Three Chicks! Will the Chicks be there in a weeks time??

26th June:- Allen Pool; Avocet 6 adults plus 4 young. John Wilson! The last remaining Nest must have Hatched! (Hopefully the Chicks will survive more than 48 hours)???

25th June:- Avocet 4 adults, 2 young (one of the older ones and one younger). Couldn't see more, and the grass is long but adult behaviour doesn't suggest many others are left. Ian Hartley!

25th June;- A day away with Lancaster Fellwalkers,

24th June:- Allen Pool; Two Avocets and One Nest seen. The Island with the second Nest had Two Spoonbills on it and no Avocets! Is this the End Game???

22nd June:- Allen Pool; Six Avocets and Two Nests seen. There was another Pair of Avocets on the Pool today!!!

22nd June:- Conder Pool am; Four Avocets and One Chick seen. There may be more Chicks??? (I can see adult Avocets Guarding Chicks/Chick but am unable to see them) [the long grass does not help]!

20th June 8.30 to 9.30am, Conder Pool; Six Avocets and One Large Chick! No change at 2pm!! I may? have missed some Chicks/Avocets, I am am not able to look into this today!

19th June:- Allen Pool: Four Avocets and Two Nests, An Egg in the recent Nest was seen being turned over today!

18th June:- Allen Pool; Four Avocets and Two Nests! One New Nest Established since my last visit!

17th June:- Conder Pool 9.30 to 11am; Ten Avocets Seen and Ten Chicks! The Third Nest has Hatched (Three Chicks) [Two already counted], a Fourth Nest Has Hatched, the adults swam the Four tiny Chicks accross to the Islands! I suspect there is a fifth brood but they are in an inlet that is very dificult to see!!!

16th June:- Allen Pool; Four Avocets and One Nest. Nest only viewable from EM Hide!

15th June:- Conder Pool; Six Avocets seen plus Two Large and Three small Chicks! Nest number Two is now deserted. I am not sure whether the Three chicks seen are from the second Nest, or Nest Number Three has young???

14th June:- Conder Pool; Six Avocets Seen. I can only see One Egg in the second Nest Now however I have only seen One small Chick and Two Large Chicks, so no change!

14th June:- Six Avocets on The Allen Pool and One Nest! The Nest is only visible from The EM Hide. One pair is looking for a Nest Site!

12th June:- Avocet 4 including 1 nest visible only from EM Hide John Wilson.

11th June:- Conder Pool; 10am to 12pm, Six Avocets Seen and Three Chicks! The second Nest has hatched One Chick (Two Eggs being Brooded in The Nest)!

9th June:- Two Avocets on The Flood! that's it, couldn't not find any more Avocets. Had a good look at The Allen Pool and there were Many Gulls Sitting but no Gull Chicks to be seen! It must Be a Fox/Foxes, a couple of Crows could not clear all the Gull Chicks (there must be some well fed Fox Cubs nearby)!!

8th June:- Three Avocets on The Allen Pool plus One Nest! I was told that a Fox got in on The 7th.

7th June:- Conder Pool 9 till 11am, Eight Avocets; Two of which were on The River Conder! Two Nests and still Two Chicks. The Chicks were feeding on new ground today (closely watched by the parent Birds). So far the Chicks have only fed in the Grass this year!!

6th June:- 9 to 10.00am; Twelve Avocets on the Allen Pool and Five Nests. Two Nests have hatched young since my last visit and One New Nest found. None of the young seen by John Wilson on the 4th June have survived!

5th June:- Rain. Rain. Rain.

4th June:- Conder Pool, 9 till 10.30am; Seven Avocets seen Now Two Nests and Two growing Chicks!

4th June:- Avocet 24 plus 3 chicks from the French ringed bird. Hope they don't end up as Sunday lunch for the Carrion Crows! John Wilson

3rd June:- Eight Avocets on The Flood plus Nine Avocets on The Allen Pool. Six Nests found this includes a new Nest! Another Pair are looking for a Nest Site!

2nd June:- Thirteen Avocets on The Allen Pool, and Five Nests. No Chicks seen. One pair of Avocets looking for a new Nest Site!

1st June:- Conder Pool 12 till 2pm; Eight Avocets One Nest and Two Chicks seen! Two more adults seen; obvious newcomers (Much Mating and searching for a Nest Site)!

1st June:- 8.30 to 10am; One Avocet on The Flood plus Thirteen Avocets on The Allen Pool, still Five Nests; and One Chick until 9.45am whan a BH Gull had it for lunch!

31st May:- 7 till 8.30am; Eight Avocets on The Flood plus Thirteen Avocets on The Allen Pool! Now Two Chicks surviving (The parents were taking them Walkabouts)! Now only Five Nests (One Nest has been Predated/Abandoned with One Egg still in The Nest).

30th May:- There were 8 Avocet on Conder Pool this afternoon at 3.15pm. A Grey Heron turned up and was mobbed by all eight plus few Black-headed Gulls. I had to leave before I could see any result from the mobbing, but not much progress was being made in seeing the predator off when I left. Pete Woodruff.

30th May:- Conder Pool; Morning Six Avocets; One Nest being brooded. Three Chicks; a Two and a One. The single Chick was obviously much larger than the other two (so they will be from different Nests)!

29th May:- Avocet 20 plus 3 young John Wilson There were Four young when I visited early Morning!

29th May:- Thirteen Avocets on The Allen Pool and Six Nests. Four Chicks seen but the single Chick from the 27th not found.

28th May:- Allen Pool, Avocet 20 4 young John Wilson It all seems to be happening when I can't be present!

28th May:- Conder Pool, Avocet 6 adults, one with 2 small young; one nest still with eggs, the third with adult on also, so either still on eggs or maybe very young chicks. Ian Hartley, Probably the second Nest has hatched young but can't confirm till I have paid a visit???

27th May:- 6.30 to 8.30am, Twelve Avocets on The Allen Pool and Seven Nests. One New Nest Found and One Chick Seen! The Chick was from a Nest at the rear of the main Nesting Colony so was not visible till it's parents took it for a swim to a nearby mud bank! Will it survive till the 29th???

25th May:- Conder Pool, Avocets Six; Two Nests! No Chicks seen, but if the Chicks seen on the 22nd Don't turn up they have been Predated!

24th May:- 8am to 9am, Seventeen Avocets on The Allen Pool and Seven Nests. Two Nests have produced Chicks but non have survived!

23rd May:- 9.00am to 11am, Conder Pool; Six Avocets, now Two Nests. The Original Nest has hatched Chicks and they have been moved to a Creek not visible from The Viewpoint! The Parent Birds are looking after the Chicks and Dive Bombing Gulls, Sheep, Ducks etc., that come near! The Third Nest is also not visible from The Viewpoint!

22nd May:- Two young Avocet out of the nest today. Pete Woodruff!

22nd May:- 8.30 to 10am, Three Avocets on The Flood plus Sixteen Avocets on The Allen Pool. Five Chicks seen from Two Nests, One Chick was taken by Gulls!

21st May:- 8 to 11 am; Seventeen Avocets on The Allen Pool with Eight Nests, (another new Nest found today). Two Chicks seen in Two individual Nests, (there are probably more Chicks being Brooded)!

20th May:- 8 to 9am; Nineteen Avocets on The Allen Pool with Seven Nests, No Chicks found!

19th May:- Afternoon Visit; Avocet 6 nests remaining. John Wilson

18th May:- Conder Pool, Six Avocets; Two Nesting Pairss. The Fifth and Sixth birds seem to be new arrivals!

16th May:- Allen Pool; Avocet 17 with 9 sitting, Dave Balding A total of Four Eggs seen on the 15th and 16th!!!

15th May:- Avocet 24 birds on the Allen but only 10 nests and no young due to Carrion Crow predation.

13th May:- The Flood not counted! Twenty Four Avocets seen, Twelve Nests found. Another AnotherThree nests Robbed! Re the Chick saw on the eleventh (This nest no longer exists)! The number of Chicks hatched is probably an under estimate as I am not there 24 hours in a day, 7 days a Week!

11th May:- 11am to 12pm, The Flood not counted! Twenty Avocets on The Allen Pool; Fifteen Nests Found. Nine Nests Robbed by Crows/Gulls! One Nest found with a single Chick (not the nests found on the 9th May). The usual super abundance of predators on the Allen Pool!!!!

9th May:- 8am, One Avocet on The EM Flood and Forty Three Avocets on The Allen Pool. Seven Chicks Seen, One Nest with Four and another with Three (They were being brooded most of the time because of the 2 or 3 degrees Temperature)!

7th May:- The Flood not counted! Forty Avocets on The Allen Pool and Twenty Four Nests, Two New Nests. No Chicks found.

4th May:- The Flood not counted! Thirty Eight Avocets on The Allen pool and Twenty Two Nests!

3rd May:- Two Avocets on The Flood plus Fourty Avocets on The Allen Pool. Still Twenty Nests.

2nd May:- Conder Pool 9am, Two Avocets on The Conder Pool. 3pm One Avocet on The Conder Pool and One Avocet on The River Conder (Feeding).

1st May:- Ten Avocets on The Flood plus Twenty Nine Avocets on The Allen Pool. No change in the Nesting numbers! There should be Chicks within the next Seven days!

30th April:- A day away with Lancaster Fellwalkers,

29th April:- 10 to 11am, Twenty Avocets on The Flood plus Thirty Avocets on The Allen Pool. Eighteen Nests found (this includes a new nest)! Two Abandoned Nests (they were washed away by the high Tides since my last visit)!

27th April:- At High Tide; 1pm, Two Avocets on The Conder Pool! Defnitely a Nesting Pair Now!! Earlier there was one bird on the Nest and another feeding on the River Conder.

26th April:- Eleven Avocets on The Flood plus Forty Avocets on The Allen Pool (Now Nineteen Nesting Pairs)!

25th April:- Conder Pool, One Avocet on The Conder Pool and One Avocet on the River Conder. The Conder Pool bird may be brooding Eggs ??? A second visit needed to confirm this!

24th April:- 8am to 10.30am, Six Avocets on The Flood plus Thirty Six Avocets on The Allen Pool. Now at least Sixteen Nesting Pairs (The Birds are showing interest in another Three Islands [Four in total])! There were also Four Avocets on The Lilian Pool (not breeding)!

23rd April:- 10.30am, Fourteen Avocets on The Flood plus Thirty Four Avocets on The Allen Pool. At least Fourteen Nesting Pairs. Attempts are being made to breed on another Island!

22nd April:- Conder Pool, Four Avocet at Conder today, (Phil).

20th April:- Forteen Avocets on The Flood plus Thirty Two Avocets on The Allen Pool. Thirteen Nesting Pairs!

19th April:- Conder Pool 8am, Two Avocets on The Pool on their usual Island, 2.30pm still in the same place but exploring the Island (3pm The Pair flew to the River Conder to feed)!

18th April:- Two Avocets on The Flood plus Forty Eight Avocets on The Allen Pool. There are now Eleven Nesting Pairs (All on one Island on The Allen Pool)!

17th April:- 44 Avocet were visible from the E Morecambe hide (J Carter)

16th April:- A day away with Lancaster Fellwalkers,

15th April:- 10.30am, Fourty Two Avocets on The Allen Pool. At least Eight Nesting Pairs!

13th April:- 10am, Four Avocets on The Flood plus Thirty Six Avocets on The Allen Pool. More Birds are now incubating! One Egg seen!

12th April:- 1 to 2pm, Eleven Avocets on The Flood plus Sixteen Avocets on The Allen Pool. There are Four Pairs on The Allen Pool with pre Nesting behaviour (only One bird is actually incubating)!

11th April:- Conder Pool 9am, Two Avocets seen. 4pm Two Avocets on The River Conder (Feeding).

10th April:- 8.30am, Forty Avocets On The Allen Pool. No Nesting Pairs seen as yet! 2 Avocets on Conder Pool (Barrie Cooper)! Will they stay??? They were successful last year

9th April:- Avocet 39 all on Allen Pool (John Wilson)

8th April:- 10am, Eight Avocets on The Flood plus Thirty Avocets on The Allen Pool. The EM Pool is empty again, (Leaking Sluice)!!

7th April:- Several reports of Thirty Two Avocets today!!

6th April:- 10am, Fifteen Avocets on The Flood plus Eighteen Avocets on The Allen Pool. A full house plus today!!!

5th April:- 2pm, Six Avocets on The Flood plus Six Avocets on The Allen Pool, however; Early Morning c20 Avocets including 3 mating pairs on Allen pools (Richard du Fer). It looks like the Mating Pairs are still there but Fourteen or so Birds have moved elsewhere!

4th April:- A day away on The Wyre,

3rd April:- 10am, Six Avocets on The Flood plus Six Avocets on The Allen Pool. Are these returning Birds or new recruits???? There did seem to be Six Pairs!

2nd April:- A day away with Lancaster Fellwalkers,

1st April:- 11am, Two Avocets on The EM pool.

31st March:- 2pm, Three Avocets on The Flood. The Pools and the Saltmarsh are still flooded!

30th March:- Rain. Rain. Rain. Rain. However at 10.30am there were Two Avocets on The Flood and Four Avocets on The EM Pool. Where have all the Avocets Gone????

29th March:- Rain. Rain. However during a lull in the showers I observed:- Seven Avocets on The Flood plus Four Avocets on The Allen Pool. There has been a near 10 metre tide overnight and The Saltmarsh is Flooded. The water levels in the EM and Allen Pool have risen.

27th March:- 8.30am, Eleven Avocets on The Flood plus Sixteen Avocets on The Allen Pool.

25th March:- 9am, Twelve Avocets on The Flood plus Eleven Avocets on The Allen Pool.

23rd March:- 9.30am, Four Avocets on The Flood plus Seventeen Avocets on The Allen Pool. 23 Avocets on The EM Complex (Jeff Butcher)!

22nd March:- 1.30pm, Seventeen Avocets on The Flood. No birds of any sort on The Allen Pool (The Electric Fence was being worked on)!!!

21st March:- 2.30pm, Ten Avocets on The Allen Pool. It was not possible to count the birds on The Flood because of the glare from The Sun!

20th March:- 1pm, Nine Avocets On The Flood; the Electric Fence appears to have been installed around the Allen Pool but The Avocets have not returned as yet!

19th March:- A day away with Lancaster Fellwalkers, however Ten Avocets were seen on The Flood!

16th March:- 12am, The Electric Fence was being installed around The Allen Pool, (so no birds)! Nine Avocets on The Flood plus One Avocet on Lilians Pool.

15th March:- 8am, Four Avocets on The Flood Plus Ten Avocets on The Allen Pool. At least Six Pairs seen. Later the Flood Birds flew to The Allen Pool!

14th March:- Eric Morecambe Complex, Ten Avocets (John Wilson).

13th March:- 9.15am, Ten Avocets on The Flood plus Two Avocets on The Allen Pool. A whole lot of Mating going on!

12th March:- Five Avocets reported flying towards Morecambe Bay on The River Lune (Barrie Cooper). They may be heading for Conder Pool????

11th March:- 9.15am, Ten Avocets on The Allen Pool. They were having a good look at The Islands, however there is no Electric Fence as yet (maybe for Easter)???

9th March:- 10am, Five Avocets on The Allen Pool. This is the first time I have had a good close look at the group (Well they are all adults)!

8th March:- 9.30am, Five Avocets on The Flood, much fighting (sorting out Pairs)! Later:- Five Avocets on The Allen Pool (John Wilson), The Avocets seem to be comuting between the two Pools!!

6th March:- 9am, Five Avocets on The Flood. Six Avocets seen Earlier on The Allen Pool (Elaine). No definite colony as yet, the birds seem to be visiting the Pools in a random manner!!!

5th March:- EM Pools, Ten Avocets (P Crooks). Unfortunately I am not able to go there today!

4th March:- Two Avocets on The Flood. (Redders)

3rd March:- Marshside:- Now Twelve Avocets (Their Bird Sightings Page has sprung back to life)!

2nd March:- No Avocets on The Pools (All the water levels are up,) Probably because of the Rain!

28th February:- No Avocets Seen (John Wilson). Martin Mere, Fifty Avocets!

26th February:- Three Avocets on The Flood, viewable with Scope From Eric Morecambe Hide. The first Avocets I Have seen this year! Forty Five Avocets at Martin Mere (perhaps a few may fly North)?

23rd February:- Leighton Moss, The Flood (am) Two Avocets seen from The Train!

22nd February:- Martin Mere, Now Fourteen Avocets. The reports from Marshside have stopped (they were being done by an Intern)!!!

20th February:- Martin Mere, Now Eleven Avocets (only a matter of time before they arrive at Leighton Moss)!!

19th February:- Martin Mere, Five avocets have arrived!
