(perhaps a few will continue their journey North to Leighton
Moss!!!
2nd March:-
High tide overnight has flooded The Saltmarsh. 9am Two
Avocets on The Flood plus Four
Avocets on The Allen Pool. 12 midday, 10.3 metre High
Tide. 1pm, all the Pools are flooded (no visible Islands).
No Avocets visible!
1st March:-
A day away in Dentdale, however Fourteen
Avocets reported on
The Flood by A N other!
28th February:-
A Sunny calm Day (A rare event this Winter) 9am to 10am, Nine
Avocets on
The Flood.
27th February:- Four
Avocets on
The Flood, close to the Railway track. It is looking like the
Fifteen birds
seen on the 25th were birds of passage (where they were going
too
I have no idea)!
26th February:-
Three Avocets seen on The Flood by A. N. Other from a passing
Train.
25th February:- Fifteen
Avocets on
The Flood. Most of the birds were in a group with perhaps Two
pairs separated! The Flood has natural drainage, it floods
easily but drains much quicker than the other Pools.
24th February:- Eight
Avocets on The Flood! my
first sighting this year!
23rd February:- Five
Avocets reported
at The Allen Pool. If it ever stops Raining I will go and
see for myself! Twenty Nine Avocets at Martin Mere today so
I expect
more at LM Soon!
22nd February:-
Fourteen Avocets at Martin Mere. One
Avocet seen by John Wilson on the
EM Complex. A Rare fine day! I
have yet to see an Avocet this year!
21st
February:-Strong Winds and Rain (No Avocets Found).
20th February:-
Several visits but no sign of any Avocets! The Saltmarsh
Pools have 99% Ducks and 1% Waders. The Weather Cold with
strong winds most of the birds were sheltering from the blast!
19th February:- One
Avocet Reported
on the EM Complex by several Birders. Now Ten Avocets at Martin
Mere.
17th February:-
Now Eight Avocets at Martin Mere! Is this a significant increase?
The Pools on the EM Complex at Leighton Moss are really too deep
for Avocets at the moment, after the recent Storms. However
I will
brave the horrendous Potholes on the entry track and put on my
Wellies to check if there have been any arrivals there!
11th February:-
Now Two Avocets at Martin Mere! (Is
this the start of something Big)?
9th February:- A
Single Avocet at Martin Mere! The Earliest record in Lancashire
ever!! See Link
